It brings together information about local services, support, and practical advice across education, health, social care, and transport—all in one place

The Gateshead Parent Carer Forum is run by parents and carers of children and young people with SEND who live in the borough.

The forum works with the council, schools, health services and other providers to make sure families' experiences help to shape and improve local services.

Caring for a child or young person with SEND can be both rewarding and challenging.

Many parents find it helpful to talk to others who understand their experiences and to have clear, reliable information about the support available to them.

Parent carer forums bring families together to share experiences and work with local services to help improve support. In Gateshead, the Parent Carer Forum is an independent group that works closely with the council and health and education partners to make sure families’ voices are heard.

If you are having a tough time at school or college because of your additional needs, you do not have to deal with it on your own.

Gateshead SENDIASS can:

• Talk with you about what is going well and what feels difficult
• Help you get ready for meetings by working out what you want to say
• Come along to meetings when needed so your views are clearly heard
• Explain what support you should be getting in school or college and what to do if that is not happening
• Point you towards other services \u2013 for example in health or social care \u2013 that might also be able to help
